My Meaning of proofreading:
Proofreading to me is when you look over a paper to make corrections.

Example:
Kiley wrote a report for her college application and asked me to proofread it. I saw that she misspelled Mediterranean Sea and turtle. She also didn't underline her favorite book or put in quotations her favorite saying.
